Parking Garage

Las Vegas, NV

The Situation

Ten-level parking garage for Miracle Mile Shops and Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino was in need of a lighting and energy upgrade. The garage holds 5,200 parking spaces illuminated by over 1900 fixtures which were on all year round 24/7. With the cost of energy steadily increasing the garage being practically empty due to COVID-19 there was a real need to look at ways to cut operational costs.

There are three different types of parking applications within the overall garage:

Hotel & Casino Parking- This level where casino guests enter and exit. Valet parking is located here too. With both the hotel and casino shut down, none of the lights need to be on at 100%.

Public Parking- These levels are moderately occupied but always on at 100%.

Employee Parking- With the hotel & casino closed as well as the mall tenants with reduced staffing the employee parking levels were not busy and all fixtures were also at 100%.

The Solution

Install new lighting with an integrated ZigBee mesh network zonal control strategy.

Hotel & Casino Parking-  FSC integrated IR TEC OS NET ZigBee wireless sensors and created two zones to reduce energy consumption by 60% and 80% when space is vacant.

Public Parking – FSC integrated IR TEC OS NET ZigBee wireless sensors creating two zones with a cross over zone to take the fixtures from 40% light output when the space is unoccupied to full light output if a vehicle or person is detected. The lights will automatically illuminate the level properly.

Employee Parking- FSC integrated IR TEC OS NET ZigBee wireless sensors and created two zones with a cross over zone to take the fixtures from 20% light output when the space is unoccupied to 100% full light output. If a vehicle or person is detected the lights will automatically properly illuminate the level.

Since this parking structure enjoys an abundance of ambient light for most of the day, all fixtures on the perimeter of each level are programmed to be in the dim or off mode as long as there is sufficient natural light. Base light levels are programmable and adjustable.

As both vehicle and pedestrian traffic increase as the economy opens back up, the zonal lighting system that was selected will enable the property management team to adjust the light levels to optimize energy savings and light levels when the garage is back to pre-pandemic occupancy.
